The UK’s shooting elite gather at Bisley

The British International 50m Championships returned to Bisley on 3rd - 5th June. Prone and 3P were the focus of the event, with both men, women and juniors competing to stand on the podium.

The qualification stages began early on Saturday with Men’s 3P. The overcast and calm conditions led to some impressive scoring. Jacob Hill just missed out on the final by one point with 1122, only for 8th place to receive a two point penalty which promoted Jacob into the afternoon’s final!

The Women’s Prone match followed. The competitors shot through a rising wind until a victor was decided: Lina Jones claimed the top spot on the podium, trailed by Zara Roberts and Sarah Henderson, with Gold and Bronze going to ELEY shooters. The match saw an extraordinary performance from Phoebe Taylor, daughter of ELEY’s Martyn Buttery, who shot a new personal best to become Junior champion.

The Men’s 3P finalists then assembled to challenge for the title. An exciting match followed until Dean Bale took Gold (and a new Junior Finals Record), Mark Bamsey Silver and Mark Szymankiewiec Bronze, all shooting ELEY cartridges. Jacob Hill took advantage of his place in the final to take fourth.
On Sunday the Women’s 3P qualification got underway. Clear skies provided good light but a strong breeze blew in from two directions to challenge the competitors. Joanne Pullen topped the session with 570 to lead the shooters into an all ELEY final. Sian Corish recorded some great shots to take Gold, followed by Hannah Pugsley and Katie Gleeson.

The Men’s Prone final was the last match of the event and followed a hard fought qualification. 20 shots saw Ken Parr record a score of 204.9 to win Gold, Ken Bowley followed closely behind to take Silver, and Neil Stirton claimed the Bronze medal, all using ELEY ammunition.
11 of the 12 medallists at Bisley used ELEY ammunition matched to their barrel and selected from our UK range in Birmingham.
Our thanks go out to all the shooters and to Bisley for a fantastic competition.
