Three records set in one day at London 2012

At London 2012, the day started with glorious sunshine for the Women’s 10m Air Pistol and Women’s Skeet.

The range was busy although it seemed like slightly less people attended today. Women’s 10m Air kicked off today’s events. It was the second time for Wenjun Guo (CHN) (Current Olympic Gold Medal Winner Beijing), Kostevych (URK) and Viktoria Chaika (BLR) to enter an Olympic final. The other pistol shooters that made it through to the final were Celine Gobervile (FRA), Liubov Yaskevich (RUS), Yuling Su (CHN), Zorana Arunovic (SRB), Lenka Maruskova (CZE).

Yet again we had great commentary and the Locog staff really worked hard at engaging the crowd and creating a super atmosphere.

The final was probably one of the most exciting in history. Guo started in rank 1 but after the first shot she slid to 3rd position, then with Kostevych in 1st place and Goberville in 2nd. The whole final consisted of a battle between the three shooters and on the 9th shot we all thought Goberville was clearly going to take the Gold medal, after a disappointing 8.8 Goberville ended up in a tie with Kostevych. Guo took the second Gold medal for China in the Shooting, leaving Goberville and Kostevych in a shoot off for Bronze and Silver. The two ladies who are great friends, had to fight for their medal chance and in the end it was Goberville who took Silver with a 10.6.

Today was also a very special day for Women’s shot gun, USA’s Kim Rhode made history after breaking three records in one day. Kim set a new Olympic record hitting 74 out of 75 targets, she set a final’s world record of 99 hits and finally she is the first US athlete to win 5 Olympic medals in 5 different Olympic Games her first being in 1996.
