Supporting shooters in South America

ELEY’s International Sales Manager Jon Merry travelled to Santiago in Chile to support the South American Target Shooting Championships. The event took place from the 28th November to the 4th December on the outskirts of Santiago.

Teams were fielded by Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay, and guest countries Costa Rica, Guatemala and Jamaica. An impressive number of athletes attended the event. It was encouraging to see a large number of junior and young senior shooters actively competing across all disciplines, which bodes very well for the future of target shooting in South America.

The Championship began in hot and sunny conditions, but the temperature dropped for the Men’s 50m Prone contest to provide an unexpected challenge. After 12 .22LR events ELEY ammunition was used to win 26 out of 36 medals, a great result for ELEY shooters.

Jon Merry said of his visit to the Championships: “Congratulations must go to Chilean Federation President Juan Carlos Fuenzalida Leiva and his team for organising a first-class event. It was fantastic to meet all of the athletes, team staff, Federation representatives and judges in the competition. It was very important to help support ELEY shooters at this prestigious event, and I appreciated the opportunity to converse with the athletes, the teams and the Federation representatives. It was a perfect opportunity to increase awareness of the event to ELEY’s followers on our social media channels.

The President of the Chilean Federation gave me the honour of presenting the medals for the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol team event, which was an unexpected but much-appreciated gesture. Attending this event has been a very rewarding experience and one that I look forward to repeating in the future. Congratulations and my best wishes to all involved!”
