New World Record and Gold medal for ELEY shooter Pejcic

It was another hot day in shooting range in Rio at the ISSF World Cup. After elimination matches yesterday the women were ready to start the qualification match for 50m 3 position women.

After a very good kneeling series of 99 and 100 Pejcic was in the zone and her prone series of 100 and 100 meant she finished her first four series with only dropping one point. The audience could all see that it was leading to something very exciting. On the first series of standing she found the best position and her first series of 96 meant she had gone 50 shots with dropping only 5 points then her second series of 99 which brought her new World Record of 594 points with 33x in the qualification.

The eight finalists were: Nagay (Poland), Gankhuyag (Mongolia), Endleder (Germany), Beard (USA), Jamborong (Iran), Zublasing (Italy), Mazurova (Czech) and Pejcic (Croatia).

After the first kneeling series Engleder had a slight lead, follow up by Nagay and Gankhuyag. In the Prone series Pejcic moved up to the third place followed by Gankhyuag and Endleger.

After a tough battle in the heat of the finals hall the first athletes to leave the competition after the first two elimination shots were Mazurova and Beard. After the next two standing shots the Polish athlete Nagay left the final in 6th place. Next out was Jamborong in 5th place with her best ever finish in this event and Zublasing took 4th place after a tense couple of shots.

The atmosphere for the spectators was electric with some fine shooting on show leaving Gankhyuag, Edleger and Pejcic in the medal positions. Gankhuyag was competing in her fist 3 Positions final and she took Bronze medal to great applause.

The final two shots were down to Pejcic and Engdlander with Pejcic having slight lead, her last two shots were good tens to finish with a 3 point cushion over the German to take her second world cup medal of the season after her Silver in Bangkok a few weeks ago.

It was a truly awesome display of shooting and congratulations to the worthy medallists and all the finalists.

Congratulations from the ELEY team.
