Equal finals World Record & Gold for ELEY shooter Klimov

The 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event took place today at the Olympic test event World Cup in Rio de Janeiro.

The elimination was fierce but only six finalists went though. They were: Leonid Ekimov (Rus) Keith Sanderson (USA) Jean Quiquampoix (Fra) Alexei Klimov (Rus) Christian Reitz (Ger) and Oliver Geis (Ger).


The competition began with ELEY shooter Klimov wowing the audience with a clean, cool and calm 5 hits. It was great so see and he began leading the competition from the off.

After the next series of 5 shots Klimov remained in the lead with another amazing 5 hits bringing his total to 10, he lead the competition by 3 points.

After the next 5 shot series Klimov took 3 hits and remained in 1st place by one point. Quiquampoix and Sanderson followed closely behind with Ekimov, Geis and Reitz in the bottom three positions.

Once the fourth series was complete the first to be eliminated in 6th place was Reitz with a total of 13 hits.

Another 5 shot series saw Ekimov finishing in 5th place with 17 hits.

The next series of 5 shots resulted in a shoot off for 4th place between Quiquampoix and Geis. Quiquampoix won the tie and booked himself into the medal place positions.

Another 5 shot series of fine shooting, Quiquampoix finished with 26 hits to take the Bronze leaving ELEY shooter Klimov and ELEY shooter Sanderson to fight for the Gold.

At his point, Klimov was on 30 points with 5 only shots to go, the tension was building for him to gain a equal finals World Record.

In the final 5 shots Klimov shot 5 giving him an equal finals World Record, and a friendly pat on the back from fellow competitor Sanderson before he took his last shots.


At the end of the competition, Sanderson took the Silver with 31 and Kimov took the Gold with 35.
