25M Rapid Fire
Rapid Fire is one of the two Male ISSF and Olympic .22 pistol disciplines. Shooters use a semi-automatic .22 calibre pistol which has an anatomical grip and can be adjusted for the shooter. The pistol has a 5 shot magazine which enables the shooter to shoot 5 shots in short succession, hence the name rapid fire.
The aim of the discipline is to shoot a 500mm target from 25 meters. There are two stages of 30 shots, both is split into 3 sections. In section one you shoot five shots at the five targets which are in a line, this has to be done in eight seconds. Section two you fire five shots at the five targets in six seconds, and the third section you shoot five shots at five targets in four seconds, and this is then repeated. The highest score you can achieve is a 10.9 per shot, with a combined highest score of both stages being 654.
At ISSF competition level and using an electronic target, there are light indicators for each stage. A red light to tell you not to shoot and a green. Stage one is referred to as elimination 1, stage 2 is called elimination 2, the scores are then combined and the six shooters with the highest score go through to the final. In the final each shooter shoots the five targets until they are knocked out of the competition.
