Warren Potent was first introduced to the sport by a friend at high school when he was 16 years of age, and has now been shooting for 30 years. Warren competed in his first nationals in 1980 and went on to represent his country in International competitions from 1986. During the same year he won a World Championship in the 50m Prone teams event (with partners Don Brook and Alan Smith) in Suhl, East Germany.

A reserve in the 1988 Olympic team, Warren took a break from the sport between 1990 and 1997 concentrating on a car detailing business he purchased at the time and only shooting to state championships level during those years. He returned to international shooting in 1997 having a desire to compete at a home Olympic Games.

Since his return to the sport Warren has competed at World Championships in 1998 and 2006, was a member of the Australian team competing at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and 2006 and Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004. Warren has been selected to represent Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games making the event his third successive Olympic Games.

Warren has competed at the ISSF World Cup events since 1987, and this year has had a fantastic start to his season winning bronze medal at the first round in Brazil, Rio de Janerio followed by an impressive performance at WC2 Beijing taking gold medal in the Prone competition and equaling the Final World Record of 704.8. With his recent results Warren is currently ranked number 1 in the World!
