Lightweight Sport Rifle (LSR) events can be shot with of any action type but self loading/semi-automatic actions are required for the faster timed events. The rifle must weigh no more than 4.5kg (including glove if used) and have a trigger weight in excess of 500g. Some events permit the use of an air rifle.
Competitions are shot over various distances from 20 yards up to 50 metres, on targets of relevant size and shape. While any sights are allowable, no slings or special clothing can be used and shooting is freestyle from an unsupported standing position. The discipline is an ideal way to begin target shooting, and is increasingly popular in the UK, due in part to the low cost of both rifle and ammunition, and to the minimal equipment needed.
