In bench rest shooting, participants fire their rounds while seated at a steady bench with the rifle supported by a front and rear rest, this allows for highly precise bullet placement.

Whilst there are a many competitions for this discipline, this position is a good place to start for the novice beginner where he/she can learn the elements of controlling the rifle before progressing onto the above positions.
