Emmons sets new finals world record

26th May 2016

What a day for ELEY shooter Matt Emmons, who performed at an outstanding level and set a new Finals World Record with a score of 1184 and 66 center tens.

Throughout this week of competition Emmons shot 233 prone shots of which 231 of those were tens. With how well Emmons was shooting prone everyone on the world circuit was shocked Emmons was not selected to shoot prone at the Rio Olympics.

Milenko Sebic from Serbia worked harder than any other shooter on the line to make the final today. Sebic had hit the match button to move off prone sighters but for some reason it did not work and he continued to shoot what he thought were his competition shots on the sighting setting. His coach was getting more than a little worried and conscious of time, and finally Sebic checked the screen after shooting the full 40 shoots and realized what had happened. Like a true professional, this did not phase him; he quickly hit the match button and got straight back on target where he shot a 399!

The scores in qualification were extremely high, where it took an 1178 - 70x to secure a spot in the final. After the kneeling stage in the final, Sebic had the best series scoring 155.2 and was closely followed by Crotia’s Petar Gorsa with a 154.7, Emmons held on to third. Sauvplane and Emmons then had a great first prone series where Emmons shot straight to the top of the leader board, he held this position with his last prone series scoring an amazing 53.3.

The first standing series was quite disappointing from a spectator’s perspective with all shooters struggling to hold the 10 ring. Emmons soon got back on track where he scored a 51.0 in the second series and had a comfortable lead of 3.3 points ahead of Sauvplane. When the eliminations started there was little change and it was clear no one would be able to catch Emmons who deserved to win the Gold with a new Finals Word Record. Sebic fought all day and won the silver with Rumpler just beating Sauvplane to the Bronze. This was a fantastic match to end another brilliant World Cup, Thank You Munich.
